Over 200 years ago Adam Smith wrote that: "it is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest" and since then the idea that an economy should be based on egoistic individualism went viral.
A lot has changed since Smiths time, for better and for worse. Specialization and technological advances have lead to huge increases in productivity but also personal alienation and environmental destruction. We've become so productive that it's a problem: resources are wasted and 'jobs are lost'. Despite wasteful over-production, current distribution patterns mean that people still starve, still drink unsafe water and die of easily preventable diseases.

What about playing a different game: an economy based on solidarity, mutual-aid and cooperation? What has it looked like? Where does it exist now? What could it look like? How can we get there?
